5 Inexpensive Dates in a Bad Economy

If he's making the economy an excuse, swipe left....

A guy who makes too many excuses whilst pursuing you is not worth your time. He will make excuses for not making time for you. More so, for not taking you on a date. A real man makes a plan...all the time!

Yes, the economy is atrocious...a complete nightmare! Does that mean that humanity stops? Y'all,  we have procreation to continue until the end of time. A season of a recession, shouldn't hinder dates, relationships and the whole nine yards that come with that package. Couples over centuries overcame obstacles such as family feuds, classism, racism, tribalism, religious differences etc. They all found a way around those challenges.

Any guy who uses 'in this economy' as an excuse is dropped like a pin. Honestly, such an individual lacks ambition and creativity. I want the flowers, chocolate, and the date. Otherwise...skrrr! You will have to show innovation in your pursuit. If you can't be strategic when you are single, what more when you are married with children? I worry!

So boys, listen very carefully, I shall say this only once. I am here to give you tips to have incredible dates on a low budget. What  makes a great date, is the chemistry between you and your date. However, the little efforts go a long way. Every woman wants a man who 'tries', not one who makes excuses.

Want to learn how to turn economic lemons into sweet date lemonade? Check out the five inexpensive dates in a bad economy below.

1. Petrol queue

Look, if she wants to ride with you, she better ride with you. Most petrol queues are often long and tedious. Pick her up, grab some food and snacks, and chill in the queue. While you wait for your turn to fill up the tank, you can have conversations or carpool. This is where we put the 'ride or die' theory to the test. "Babe, would you ride with me to the petrol station?" She responds, "Oh yes! And then you will take me home, " She smiles.

The date: Picking her up for the date

2. Dinner at your place

For the love of adulting please have a place of your own, abeg! You can't afford QOH, or one of those uptown restaurants, then invite her over for a meal. It's not Netflix and chill. It's a real date. You put effort to clean up your place, borrow your mother's linen and get your sister's dinner set. For afternoons, have a picnic set up. For dinner, because of load shedding, dinner by candlelight.  Whip up something by the gas stove, serve the meal on clean China and add that Mazowe that you agonised to buy. Believe me, you will have stories to tell your grandchildren. Please, no hanky panky!

The date: Lunch/dinner date

3. Take a walk around the neighbourhood

We don't have the beach, we only have a park or two, so how do you spend time together? Call her and take a walk around the neighbourhood. If you live in the plush surburbs, you will have great scenery. You can share your ambitions of building beautiful houses and planting orchards as you admire neighbours homes. You can also pick a flower for her during that walk. Just make sure the gardener doesn't catch you.  Your walk is beneficial to your health too, so it's a win!

The date: Spending time together

4. Visit the art gallery/museum

Do something out of your comfort zone. Get some culture into your date. Dress up and visit the art gallery. You might be clueless about art, but you can pretend to be bad and bourgie whilst looking at art. Alternatively there is the museum. You can goof around the artefacts, just don't break anything.

The date: Going somewhere interesting

5. Movie night

The cost to watch the Lion King at the cinema, will break more than just your mobile money,  but your heart.  Erm, we don't have defibrillators in the health sector. Plan a movie night with friends and theme it, 'Midnight starring.' When the power comes one, pop some popcorn, pour diluted juice for everyone, and don't switch the lights on. Y'all can enjoy your torrent download version of the movie in the comfort of your home made cinema.

The date: Movie

Whatever you do, let it show that you have put a lot of thought into it. Please do not use the terms, "I don't have money", "This is all that I could afford", or "I wish that I could...". Focus on stating the need to spend time together and getting to know each other. If you are in a relationship, then suggest that you wanted to do something nice for your partner.

Ladies after going through a few of these ideas, and he still makes excuses, swerve. Gentlemen, I hand you the baton to prove yourselves worthy of some other man's daughter. Yes, our daddies are watching, so step up!

The thought counts, the effort impresses and the right intention wins a woman's heart.

P.S. Always write your own love story!

Ciao!

Lady E

Single ladies: Wife material

MPV.....my point of view! Single Ladies: Wifen Material *Royal wave*Hey single ladies, your guide is back. The pursuit for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It is on.Today I would like to make you a get-a-ring-on-it lady. Now following my articles,'Single Ladies Part 3',where I talked about the prince searching for a 'real princess',or 'Queen';and 'Brown Sugar',where the word 'brown sugar' was defined as wifen material,I would like to talk about 'wifey material'.(Whether we are that). How do we single ladies get that ring-on-it,you ask?By being wifey material. My uncle keeps on telling me,'If you want to become Mrs X,you should be a wife. You are a wife before he puts a ring on it'.What he means is that,a man will treat you the way you portray yourself. How,you ask? Ever noticed the difference between a wife and a girlfriend. Now let me break it down for you.A girlfriend usually, takes life in a more leisurely way;unlike a wife, whose focus is mo...

Like A Love Song

The best ever written love song isn't perfect but it works! 'I,I love you like a love song baby,I,I love you like a love song,babe.....',young Selena Gomez singing, and vocalising what we would all take love as...a LOVE song. The love song. Women can only dream about being loved the way Gerald Levert put it,'made to love you', or have 'this love' a la Donell Jones. And I'm not talking about the exaggerated 'catching of grenades','crossing oceans',drinking of lovers' bath waters. But a love that leaves one gasping for air as they try to breathe in,a love that gives one warm fuzzy feelings inside.A love that also stands the test of time, and conquers all. But is the impression we are given by love songs similar to real relationships?Would a man not want to be 'mad' like Ne-yo, or beg you to 'stay' like Tyrese? Some may agree, whilst others would be at the other end of the pole. In the mean time men might find Beyonc...

Script My Life: The Kissing Booth 2

Wayment...there's a 'Kissing Booth 3'? I finally watched the highly anticipated sequel to the Netflix original, 'The Kissing Booth'. Picking up from where we left off, Noah is at Havard University, while Elle and Lee are high school seniors. Elle narrates the events that occurred during the summer break. She highlights her relationship with Noah, college application and Lee's relationship with Rachel. The cast remains the same with Joey King as Elle Evans, Joel Courtney as Lee Flynn and Jacob Elordi as Noah Flynn. In addition we have Molly Ringwald as Sarah Flynn, Meganne Young as Rachel, Taylor Zakhar Perez as Marco Penã, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Chloe Winthrop. Elle is adjusting to the idea of a long distance relationship with Noah. She becomes the third wheel in Lee and Rachel's relationship. The film starts with Elle narrating her time with Noah before he leaves for Harvard. Her senior year starts with her classmates gossiping how she and Noah wil...

Winter ABC Day 14: 5 Africans Who Inspire Me

I told you that this week is awesome! I love Africa! I love the people even more! I love our diversity in skin tones. I love our various languages that include clicks, coughs and long syllables. Our traditions may differ but they are somewhat intertwined. Africa isn't just the cradle of mankind. It is the stew pot of talent, intelligence and creativity. I procrastinated for a long time about writing about my African inspirations. With this challenge I have the opportunity to take action. My top 5 list includes creatives from various genres of media, arts and entertainment. As a creative myself,  I incline naturally towards those who are like myself. It is true that, 'birds of the same feather, flock together,' and away do I fly with the eagles. Without further due, below are the 5 Africans who inspire me. 1. Bonang Matheba Did you know that Bonang Matheba and I were born a week and a half apart in 1987? Now you know! I live vicariously through queen B!  She is my ...

Riding Solo, Cliques and Friendship

Friends are mirrors, shadows, at times visions, and sometimes ghosts. - The Real Lady E Let's talk about #squadgoals! I have to confess, I'm actually on season six of 'Pretty Little Liars'. 🙈 My grown self should be ashamed! But it inspired me to get to today's blog. I read a post from xoNecole about friendships. Titled, 'Types of Friends You Should Have In Your 30s', I reverted to my article about being in your 30s. In the blog I shared, " Friendships are like a Coca-Cola bottle, as you grow older you know that you will eventually be at the tip." Friendships are like a Coca-Cola bottle, as you grow older you know that you will eventually be at the tip. Watching season six of PLL, we find the 'girls' falling back into bad habits. I still can't fathom their loyalty to Alison DiLaurentis. They feel like they owe her yet it's her crazy relative who terrorised them all through high school. For young women who are supposed t...
