I Am Not Her

If I'm not the one that you want, then maybe I'll be the one you need.     But if you prioritize your wants, then I'm not her. Hello single ladies, Beyoncé wave! How are you? I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Nothing that a glass of wine and a shoulder to cry on won't fix. My blogs of late are ticking some people off. But you know what, I'm not about to censor myself for anybody. Have you met me? My face on it's own doesn't do PC very well. A nous allez!  So let's call this one basket of mine Clay. The other day Clay and I were having a conversation. He mentioned that of late I'm cold and distant. In addition I'm not the woman that he thought I was. Oh my! In my head I was like, " Wena stop thoughting and start thinking!" I then asked what has changed his perception. After an hour or so of the long list of complaints, I then asked, "What now?" I didn't feel like explaining myself. Actually I don't owe him an ex...

The Tables We Create

"Anyone can be number one but not everybody is first." -Billy Dee Williams  Imagine I woke up without any idea of today's blog. I feel fatigued and the day seemed longer than most. But after a dose of catching up with the Emmys, I found some inspiration. So much black excellence. Queens Regina King, Uzo Aduba, comedy kings Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, and Mr. Tyler Perry! Congratulations to Zendaya who becomes the second black woman to win best female lead in a drama. She's also the youngest actress in that category. My favourite show Insecure secured a nod too. As I write this I just watched the next generation of spoken word artists create some magic. The art and culture of the spoken word are in safe hands. Mr. Tyler Perry has my utmost respect. I have watched the evolution of the filmmaker's career ever since my first Madea movie. The powerful stories that spoke to my own script drew me to the writer. Today I stand as a student of Tyler Perry. We might not h...

I Miss Her

Whatever I said, whatever I did, I didn't mean it, I just want you back for good" Lyrics by Take That, yes Gen Z, a British pop guy group that were there before One Direction. I'll admit that I do like Harry, and love Zayn Malik. But that's none of our business. I wear my heart on my sleeve today. I always wear it and even wrap it around like a head wrap, or loin clothe. I miss her so much. The fire, and the passion. In some ways her feminine energy was always endearing. She had big dreams that she would repeatedly diarise. Imagine a whole vibe when she comes into the room? She would take time to do her make up and fix her hair. She had to look like the lady that she aspired to be. Really don't know how she lost it? I want that girl back, the spirit and fire, but I want her to be.... ...the woman I'm becoming. P.S. : Always write your own love story! Ciao! Lady E

Wayment....You Wanna What?

My gosh! In the week that my ovaries are screaming baby, I almost caught a nasty case of 'F*ckboy'... A.k.a he didn't earn this nookie! Bonjour my single ladies (Beyoncé wave). It's been a minute, hasn't it? Well, your girl is still trying to adjust to the 'new normal'. And well, I have been hitting brick walls with this writing thing. But I guess I was slightly amused so I have something to write about. Science has proven that when a woman is ovulating, she makes her most poor choices. She often copulates with alpha males, or the non-committal type for procreation. Not my handwriting. During my ovulation period, I came across a rather attractive young man. We know each other from circles. I complimented him on what I discovered as a new shared passion. Let's call this youngin' ' LaTrey '. So I have kinda liked LaTrey but it's not something I literally took into account. Look, he's been in a relationship, which was Instagram official...

Single Ladies: Thank You, Next!

I just had the most vivid dream about my high school crush ! I think I love him! But that's a conversation for another day. Hey single ladies, (Beyoncé wave)! How are you beautiful goddesses? I am fine thank you. The journey is so exciting and evolutionary. To imagine where we started from six years ago to date, the amount of internal change and personal growth. Like you, I'm still single, but I'm now single with a purpose. And I can safely say that I am ready for Mr Put-a-ring-on-it, and the whole shebang - flaws and all. Even my brother's girlfriend affirmed that I am a mature woman ready to settle down. But it's not the narrative for all the single ladies and that's okay! My older sister and I always have these conversations about personal growth and self love. She is a wellness and mental health consultant with a background in psychiatry. I am a work in progress with a nursing background, psychology and psychiatry included. I also use my personal e...

Love Jones Got Me On That Stage!

Happy Monday y'all, it's storytime! "Being of the fairer sex, I have been subjected to suppression,  but with this platform, I am subjected to self expression", I remember those words as if it was yesterday. It had been a two week practice of my debut spoken word piece. I stood there in front of both upcoming and seasoned women in the arts. The late Chiwoniso Maraire, and 'big sister', Dudu Manhenga were part of the crowd. Nerves hit me, fearing that words would regurgitate back to my core. I would forget to say what I needed to say. I had to say those words. On a day like this, I wanted to share something lighthearted and personal. Yes, last week was all sorts of heavy and even I felt overwhelmed as I delved into the status quo. Reminded by the article about how I started blogging ,I thought that I would share a story about another passion of mine. Poetry! Oh yes, I follow Maya Angelou, Warsan Shire, Ntozange Shange, Jeanette-ikz and many others. The o...

When The Going Gets Tough

Lack is the mother of hustle and innovation! I have just finished doing my own hair. I spent the whole winter without a protective hairstyle for my natural hair. My hair is damaged (mainly due to stress), and mismanagement because I have run out of product. Haven't afforded a hairdresser in a while. Yes, it's been a rough couple of months. During the last church service, I went for prayer and counselling. The lady praying for me, said, "You look like a go-getter to me!" Haven't really felt like that of late, but I have in the past, made a dollar out of fifteen cents. I remember sharing a testimony with a former manager. I told her about how I entered the employment field three and half years after giving birth. My first job was as a sales person for a new product on the market. I had no previous qualifications in sales or marketing but I had the zeal. Though I and the rest of the employees got screwed over, I held onto the CEO's words. He said to us dur...

Motivation, That Black Girl Magic!

My brown baby can see the magic in her complexion! Normani has just made my Friday! Today happens to be my daughter's birthday! Oh, yes I finally have a 'tween'. I'm just two years shy from a having a teenager. And with a teenager there's the need to be 'cool' and relevant. This is the stage where formation of a future adult occurs. These are impressionable years. To some extent, I ignored the status quo. It's none of my business because it's a broken record with so much noise. It's deja vu without effective results, so my ignorance is bliss! In other news, yes my little girl is a young lady now! And guess what, a member of one of her favourite girl groups just dropped a banger. Though not yet age appropriate for her due to the lyrics, Normani's 'Motivation' video is everything! Imagine a brown girl breaking the internet! She's earned the applause of her peers and even praise from legends such as Missy Elliott. Y'a...

Just Because I'm a Woman

"My mistakes are no worse than yours, just because I'm a woman." - Dolly Parton I breathe an old soul in my being and I blame it entirely on my daddy. This weekend was rather moody with the grey clouds and my personal melancholy. I was lighting candles and going through old photos as yet again, I remembered my parents' death anniversary. I truly believed in love stories when my father passed away on the 4th of August 1999. This is five years and a day after my mother's passing. He had followed his love. Over the years, I have fought with God about this robbery. I often question faith. I am not going to get into it on this platform. Today, in remembrance of the two beautiful souls whom I called mum and dad, I recollect memories.  The Beach  If I am to wed, the ceremony will be by the beach. When I die, please scatter my ashes by the sea. My next birthday, I am definitely celebrating it in Vilanculos. It's only when I came across photos of my family by  ...

King of Sorrow

King Of Sorrow.   These kids grow like they are on fertiliser,(me thinking that my daughter needs new shoes),whilst preparing her for school, this morning. My mind then drifted to the video to Sade's song,'King Of Sorrow'.(The part when she is washing her kid's shoes). In the video,Sade potrays a struggling single mother who tries to balance everything,'I want to cook you s oup that warms your soul'.(And she does it in style.A 'hot' mum running in heels, with her kids). King of sorrow.A beautiful, but sad song, one of my favourites.I relate to the song and the video, all too well. And the song, just made me think of single mothers. How many of you single mummies carry the burdens of others before your own?How many try their best to give their children a decent life?Who,like Sade in the video,(she sings in a club),tries to spare time to pursue their own dreams? 'I'm crying everyone's tears/I have already paid for my future sins...'.If only the wor...
