Script My Life: Female Friendships & Sisterhoods

Female friendships need to come to the place of acceptance through individual differences.   Otherwise we will continue to write the narrative that women cannot get along. Female friendships , not my favourite topic. It's a complex dynamic that I am still learning. I have never hidden my personal challenges with my younger sister. As we try to go beyond sibling rivalry, what I would love most is a friendship. With the fewer female friends within my circle, our challenge is time, and really connecting with depth. With some, we have fallen into the passive-aggressive path, which we really need to work out.    As a lone ranger in femaledom, my perception of female friendships is negative. As an outsider, most female relationships tend to be riddled with conflict. It's jealousy, gossip, projection, obsession, gas lighting and a lot of small talk. I remember one time working with female cousins, where one cousin tried to get me fired. I'm sorry, I'm working on that forgivene...

Single Ladies: The Metrosexual

*Riding on a black horse* (I wish).* Beyoncé  wave* 'Hey single ladies!'. For a lady on a quest, the horse would have been ideal, right? Anyway ,how have y'all been? I hope the lessons that we are going through are helping us build character. (Wifen material). Today we have yet another bachelor under our radar. So we have so far, gone through our potential Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It who has been bachelor; the widower, the divorcee, the foreigner, the boy and last but not least, the single dad. Not so bad ladies. Now bachelor number six is,the metrosexual. Now why should we place such a man on our panel, you ask? Well,he is my personal favourite *wink*. The anatomy of a metrosexual. By definition a metrosexual is an urban man with a disposable income who spends a lot on his appearances. In other words, a guy's guy who is in touch with his inner pink. Now why would a metrosexual be a good candidate for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It? He is not. Most metrosexual men, if not gay, or...

Single Ladies: Independence vs Submission

'If you liked it, then you should put a ring on it/If you liked it,then you should put a ring on it.....',* Beyoncé wave *, hey ladies!Don't you think that we single ladies should have a get-together, and get all Sasha-fierce?*wink* Yes.The quest for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It continues. As I have shared throughout this series, that in our search,we are also preparing ourselves.(Remember wifen material). Now in this series written by yours truly, and inspired by the not-so single,'single lady', Beyoncé Knowles. (That is Mrs Carter to you), we go through some 'character' training and preparation to get to, 'I do'. Hmm.Mrs Carter. She seems to sing a lot of these female empowering songs about being beautiful, strong and independent.Ironically, Mrs Carter when she's at home with Jay, she is different; she is to be precise, submissive. Ladies, today we discuss being miss independent versus the submissive wife. (I can already see some of y'all screwing...

Single Ladies:The Lady And The Tramp

"All the single ladies, all my single ladies, all the single ladies....put your hands up...'',ladieees!*wave*I am back.Yes Lady E,your guide in our quest for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It. I think as we have been going through this series,we are learning a thing or two about our potentials and ourselves.'Charity begins at home',a cliche saying but I believe that if we take care of ourselves,in terms of personality and grooming, those church bells are not so far-fetched from ringing.(Don't you just love the sound of the word ''ring''?). Today,we are going to get groomed. If you recall the article where we asked the gentlemen out there what they defined as wifey material.I think we need to clarify this because we just might hit the jackpot,if we take appropriate measures. We discussed the issue of appearance versus perception, where Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It might have the wrong perception of single lady because she might not meet ''wifey'' ...

Script My Life: 2 Broke Girls

When talent meets determination...anything can happen! Believe it or not,I have been kind of blank on what to write today, but since I love television, my script is from one of my favourite sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls. This TV show actually inspired me to really pursue my dream of being an 'media mogul',(I will get there eventually) .the one most valuable lesson I have learnt from 2 Broke Girls is "a dollar can build an empire". Max and Caroline are two, yes, broke girls living in New York, (there is something about the Big Apple), and working as waitresses. They have a dream of owning a cupcake shop. The plan. They sell their cupcakes, to get the capital. They are not waiting for a large some of money to start their business, but with every cent they make, with the little they have, they are a step towards their dream. At my church, our pastor preached the first sermon series called, "Whatcha gonna do with whatcha have?". I was challenged.I do not have a mill...

Single Ladies: Choc or Vanilla

All that talk about brown sugar yesterday, suddenly gave me a toothache, (Yeah, Dre, I heard you loud and clear!). Anyway, still on that subject of sweet things, ladies, chocolate, mocha or vanilla? As we pursue our quest for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It,I am placing another option for us, getting a man outside our own race. (If you are cocoa you go for latte  and vice versa). Bachelor number 3: The Foreigner. On set of a production that I am working on, one of the ladies, (mixed race), was telling me how she has never dated a black man. It actually got me thinking, maybe I too, should fish in foreign waters. Why not, I have always been considered a coconut. My sisters have been telling me (for the longest time), that maybe I should get me a white man, or of the Caucasian persuasion because I think that I have failed with black 'men', and maybe I should *thinking*. I love my chocolate, but I do love the scent of vanilla. What are the advantages of dating outside one's race? First ...

Single Ladies: What a Girl Wants

Single Ladies Part 3 Hi single ladies,I am back as your guide,as we journey through our search for Mr Put-A-Ring-On-It. A few months ago as I was listening to radio, the dj was talking about certain ladies he 'approached' who were 'lonely'.He said he asked them why they were single, and one of them responded that there are no good guys around. She had a problem with the 'approach '.Apparently, one guy called her 'a horse'('Uri bhiza!'),and she took offence.(Did I not just start laughing my lungs out). So the dj,(pretty twisted),took it in a certain, sexual context (typical).I did agree with him though, that there was no need for her to take offence.Right, today ladies,if you want to (really) leave Singleville, let us stop the expectation of being approached by a lip-gloss loving, flamboyant,'Prince Charming',okay! *gunshot*Yes,I have burst your bubble, come down to earth. How do you ladies want to be approached? If I were this lady,I would have b...

Hello Single Ladies

There's a point in life that living in SINGLEVILLE in Singledom, becomes weary. Worse still when you are a woman. Unfortunately in a high-tech,progressive society,we are still patriarchal,so a woman's fate for that-ring-on-it is still very much in the man's hands. And the pressures society places on a woman, no matter how educated,or financially independant,to w ed,on top of personal pressures of biological clocks, fear of being lonely, amongst other things. As if a woman can step up to a man she wants,or who qualifies, and say,'hey you, marry me!',(boy would i have been basking in wedded bliss.)This issue of finding,or per say, choosing a partner is quite challenging. So I will go through the different types of potential candidates. Man number 1.The Widower: A man unexpectedly thrown into singledom due to unfortunate circumstances. He will probably need someone to look after the children, and the comfort of a partner. Usually, kind and sincere, but my question always is, ...
