Single Ladies: Again!

Sparks flew like fireworks on the 4th of July but it obviously fizzled.  Fireworks though magical can never replace fire which is an eternal need... Wave to all my single ladies! How have you been mes chere? I apologise for taking such a long hiatus from bearing my experiences and journey with you but I resume my story. I won't bore you with the in-betweens but like old girlfriends, I'll share an epiphany.  We all have at different parts of our lives experienced a different type of crush. Either it was on that celebrity whose poster you had up your wall. Or that guy you shared the same class with. Maybe your annoying neighbour little Eddie, who now isn't so little and is far from getting under your skin. Oh yes, that very cute lecturer whose mind boggles you or that hot co-worker who makes it so hard to concentrate when they step into the office. We have all been there or are there. No shame about it. The big question is what to do with that...

Worth the Wait...The C Card

According to actress Yvonne Orji's TEDx talk, "The wait is sexy". The irony of the 'Insecure' actress who plays the very sexual Molly Carter on the show. Oh yeah, it took the first episodes of season 2, for me to return to the first one.(I should be ashamed of my grown self!) 'Insecure' is one of the best television series by people of colour. I absolutely love how relatable and honest it is. I can relate to Issa's 'awkward black girl' moments because I'm that woman. By the way, I don’t think that Issa and Lawrence should get back together. It's over, totally! Anyway, all respect to 34 year old Yvonne Orji who's still a virgin. She's my hero! It takes a lot of discipline and courage to safeguard one's 'V' card. We live in the 'hook up' age where dating is dead and virginity is as extinct as the dodo. With TV shows such as 'Teen Mum', not to mention the examples of teen celebrities who have bee...

How Do I Live?

"Sorry, ngiyayethuka!", I apologized. My heart's racing whilst my stomach churns with fear. A colleague had spotted me and just wanted to say hi. How do I explain that I'm not yet over it? He looked at me shocked! I reacted as if it was a stranger who was about to violate me...again! It’s been two months now since I was robbed but every time that I go home, it feels as if it was yesterday. It was a Friday night when I usually try to cover all my weekend work so that I can enjoy a weekend off. Logistically, I save by not commuting to work over the weekend. So as usual I was working until slightly late. This particular Friday I had made plans to go sleep over at my sister's however since my aunt had travelled that day I had to reschedule. A cousin of mine was house sitting but due to their history of irresponsibility, someone else had to monitor them. I would handle Friday before allowing someone else to take over until my aunt's return. I covered m...

The Do-Over

There’s something about a new year that often get people excited and often it’s the idea of a fresh start. If life was a diary or memoir then on the first day of January of the new year the entry would be, ’Page one of the book of 2017, dear diary…,” with the hope that by page 365 or 366 in a leap year, the story will have a happily ever after or at least, “In the year 2017 I have met most of my goals despite…but…happened to me, so I’m grateful for…” Well, for me 2017 feels like I have turned back the hands of time to a year which I ended up regretting and experienced events that changed my life and perceptions of life. For those who are diligent with their calendars and maybe are obsessive about the Gregorian timeline as well as solar and lunar activities would have realised that 2017 is similar to the year 2012. January 1 2012 commenced on a Sunday and January 1 2017 also began on a Sunday, so for those who have unused diaries from 2012, you might as well use those just don’t forg...

3 Things Learnt In January Via www.com

Bienvenue à la nouvelle année! To all those who survived the month of January, its infamous ‘disease’, and all that comes with a New Year, I salute you all as you fought bravely and now we begin the month of February, which is a new month, meaning new beginnings. So there’s a common saying that goes, ’How you start is how you finish’ and to add onto that statement, the pastor at the church that I attend often says, ‘How you leave is how you enter’, so pertaining to the year 2017, what’s the forecast? Well, for those who managed to utilise the unlimited Wi-Fi data provided by Zol during their holiday promotion or just use regular mobile data (well, after the slight ‘disruption’ due to data increases), managed to keep their fingers on the pulse of the streets of the World Wide Web, and they definitely can map out 2017’s direction. Actually the month of January made me realise that the acronym ‘IRL’ (in real life) should probably cease to exist in the urban dictionary because when you t...

‘Hands free’ Social Zone

She’s on her bed busy on her phone while I’m sitting on a rug on the floor whilst working on my laptop, she then says something to me but I don’t reply because my assumption is that she is talking to her Snapchat followers. All of the sudden she roars and starts complaining that I never listen to her when she’s talking to me. I have come to a place where I can’t even represent myself in my defense in the court case about socially appropriate behavior with my younger sister. A slave to this gadget called a cellphone and this one in particular moves in selfishness as it boastfully shouts ‘I’ for all to know and see; my sibling is far from living in the urban dictionary abbreviated ‘IRL’ meaning in real life. To her reality and conversations are held in the power of a gadget rather than searching for depth and meaningfulness tête à tête. I guess this condition that my sister has been predisposed to, comes with the era that we live in, where colleagues and I have previously defined; s...
